How Do I Add Password Protection to My Website?<\/h2>\n

To enable Password Protection, simply follow the steps below:<\/p>\n

  1. Log into the <\/a>Hosting Control Panel<\/a> of your AwardSpace account. Don’t have an account yet? Sign up<\/a> for our service to get started!<\/em><\/li>\n
  2. Navigate to the Password Protection section of the Control Panel<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  3. Specify a Directory Path<\/strong> using the Choose Folder<\/strong> button. The Directory Path represents the folder that will become password-protected.<\/li>\n
  4. Add a custom username and password.<\/li>\n
  5. Finish the process by clicking on the Add New User<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Navigating via your web browser to the directory you chose to protect should yield a page similar to the one below:<\/p>\n

    Does Password Protection Cover Sub-Directories As Well?<\/h3>\n

    Yes, the website password protection covers all sub-directories which are located in the target protected directory. As such, if you secure the root folder for your domain name, all of your site contents will become private. If a visitor tries to gain access without knowing the correct username and password, they would be presented with the following page:<\/p>\n

    Can I Allow Additional Users to Access My Protected Directory?<\/h2>\n

    Yes, it is possible to have multiple users for the same protected directory. You can create additional users in two ways:<\/p>\n

    Creating New Users via the Add Directory Protection Form<\/h3>\n

    The process is essentially the same as creating a brand new website password protection – just make sure that you are using the same Directory Path:<\/p>\n

    1. Log into the Hosting Control Panel<\/a> of your AwardSpace account.<\/li>\n
    2. Navigate to the Password Protection section of the Control Panel<\/a>.<\/li>\n
    3. Specify a Directory Path<\/strong> using the Choose Folder button. It should be the same as your existing protected folder.<\/li>\n
    4. Add a new username\/password combination.<\/li>\n

      The second approach is to adjust the setting for your existing directory protection:<\/p>\n

        Can I Protect Multiple Directories Using a Single Username-Password Combination?<\/h2>\n

        If you wish to protect multiple directories with a single account, use the \u201cAdd Directory Protection\u201d form and use the same username and password combination for every directory that you wish to protect.<\/p>\n

        Note<\/strong>: We do not recommend using the same credentials for multiple password-protected directories!<\/p>\n

        How Do I Revoke Access for a Specific User?<\/h2>\n

        Removing users from a protected directory is a straightforward process:<\/p>\n

        4. Open the View Users<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
        5. Click on the Options<\/strong> button next to the user which you wish to remove.<\/li>\n
        6. Open the Delete User<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n
        7. Click on the Delete User<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n
        8. Confirm your choice by selecting Yes<\/strong> in the popup window that appears.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          What Would Happen if I Delete the Last User for a Protected Directory?<\/h3>\n

          The website password protection functions as long as there is at least one user associated with the protected directory.
